David Holmgren invites you to APC12

The North West Environment Centre and the Reseed Centre in Penguin, Tasmania, have been chosen to host the Twelfth Australian Permaculture Convergence (APC12) in March 2015.

NWEC logoThe North West Environment Centre (NWEC) holds the legacy of the Organic & Sustainable Living Festival begun by the legendary Organic Farming & Gardening Society, which boasts names such as Peter Cundall, David Stephen and Bill Mollison among its founding fathers.

March 2015 marks the 40th anniversary of the first Organic Festival held in Tomahawk in NE Tasmania, and NWEC was planning 40th Anniversary Festival Reseed-mosaicin Penguin to celebrate this important occasion. Coincidentally it is also the 30th Anniversary of the first Permaculture Convergence this year, so the plan is now to merge the two occasions into a major event.

The concept of Permaculture was also developed in Tasmania in the late 1970s by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren, and from this idea, Permaculture sprouted in just about every corner of the globe, and has now been adapted for a large range of climates. Permaculture is a holistic design system for creating sustainable self-managing living environments and is used around the world, including third world countries with impoverished soils and resources, as a path to returning to reasonable and sustainable usage of the earth’s natural resources.

Despite its origins there has not been a Permaculture Convergence held in Tasmania and the beautiful and accessible North West is an ideal location to bring Permaculture back to its birthplace. The hosts are very excited about this boost to tourism in North West Tasmania and are looking forward to showcasing our beautiful corner of the world.
